In October, 2011 Hilary DeCesare, CEO/co-founder of Everloop.com, the leading safe social media site for kids, left her family behind to reside and find local charities in Long Beach that were making a difference. Hilary was sent undercover as a volunteer and approached us; she told us she was filming a documentary about volunteerism in America. Our Founder Susan K. Beeney, RN agreed to be filmed having no idea Hilary was really a wealthy entrepreneur.
Susan invited Hilary to help with a special memorial garden for the Alonso family who lost their son Christian in a tragic accident. Hilary was deeply moved as she experienced our mission first hand. Throughout this incredible experience, Hilary was face to face with some extraordinary people who put their own needs aside for others. At the end of her journey, Hilary revealed her true identity and donated her own money to New Hope
“When you think about grief you kind of want to run away from it. The pain from the loss of a parent, child or other loved one is so unfathomable. Working on the front line with those who are helping others during this time changed my life forever,” said Hilary.
New Hope hosted a premiere party the night of the show at Gaslamp Restaurant in Long Beach, over 500 people attended, there was standing room only. Hilary and her Everloop entourage also joined in the evening, as the episode aired you could hear a pin drop. “We are so thankful to everyone who came out and supported the event, It was so humbling to see all of the love in the room,” said Susan.
Since the episode New Hope has been able to build infrastructure & capacity, train more volunteer group facilitators, but most importantly serve more grieving people—but we still have a long way to go. For every death in America there will be at least 13 people directly affected by grief who will need our support.
GIVE HOPE by making a $10 donation allowing New Hope to never have to turn away any grieving person or family from receiving our services. Your $10 will GIVE HOPE to a grieving person or an entire family who needs to find hope and healing after the loss of their loved one like the Alonso family.
Will you GIVE HOPE?
