2nd Annual Golf Tournament FORE HOPE

On October 1, 2012 it was almost 100 degrees in Long Beach, but the record heat did not keep our golfers from coming out to Big Rec. for a day of fun. With all the golfers registered, fed, and their mulligans purchased, our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament Fore Hope promptly began with a 1pm shotgun start.

Out on the course golfers had a wonderful time with their friends playing Closest to the Pin, competing at the Longest Drive Contest and enjoying treats provided by Corner Bakery, 7-11, and F&M Bank.  Our professional golfer Christy Quinn gave our golfers a run for their money at Beat the Pro., beating 80% of our golfers.

The tournament would not have been a success without the support of our wonderful sponsors. Our Gold sponsors were Graner Oil Company and Windes & McClaughry Accountancy Corporation.  We also had four Bronze sponsors, and a number of companies sponsored tee-signs.  The contributions made by all of our sponsors are very much appreciated.

During our awards dinner Jose and Jennifer Alonso shared how New Hope helped them to find hope and healing after the death of their

5 year old son Christian.  There was not a dry eye in the room as their story was so touching and powerful.  Jose and Jennifer made memory plates in honor of Christian which were sold at our silent auction and the money raised will support New Hope grief programs.

Our raffle was a huge hit; the golfers were like kids shuffling their raffle tickets into the prize bags with excitement.  We had great raffle prizes, ranging from a day of golf at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, electronic gadgets, fishing gear, autographed sports memorabilia, and much more.  Everyone sat with much anticipation as we called out the winning tickets, the winners ran up to the front to claim their prize as if they had won a million bucks.

This year’s golfers brought their “A” game, making the tournament a tough one to win.  With all the final numbers tallied, the winners of the tournament were Rick & Larry Wood, Steve Tomeselli, and Louie Heckerman who also referred to themselves as The Fore Nice Guys. They won with a score of 58, coming in 14 under par.

Our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament Fore Hope was a huge success, “One of the best organized and well run tournaments I’ve participated in” said Steve Cockriel.  Our success came from all of the support we had from our golfers, sponsors, and the community.  Together we were able to raise almost $15,000, New Hope is so thankful to everyone for their support and believing in the work that we do. The money raised will be used to bring hope and healing into the lives of grieving people. We are already planning for our 2013 tournament and we know it will grow with all of our New Hope supporters—we hope to see you next year.
