On Monday, June 2nd 135 golfers showed up at Recreation Park Golf Course 18 in Long Beach for our 4th Annual Golf Tournament Fore Hope. As golfers registered the excitement for the day was building. Lunch was provided by Jersey Mikes Subs, and out the course golfers enjoyed amazing eats from Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Joe Jost’s, and many more. It took no time before the competition was heating up, as last year’s tournament winners, Team Douds, were fighting to defend their title. Team Douds came out blazing with their amazing drives down range, wonderful short game, and use of Mulligans. Unmatched by any other team they defended their title, and remain tournament champions for yet another year. Congrats Team Douds!

As the golfers began to make their way into the awards dinner some were greeted by their wives, and the banquet room quickly filled with over 160 guests. We had filled the room with over 30 amazing raffle baskets loaded with wonderful gift certificates to local eateries and businesses, golf clubs, and much more. Our raffle give-a-ways and silent auction were hosted by the enthusiastic and no holds barred Rachel Oblon, Miss Southern California Cities 2013 and now our official New Hope Tournament Queen.

As the evening continued our guest speaker for the evening Moe Simpson, shared her story of hope and healing. Moe lost her husband Mike in 2012, and New Hope was there to help her pick up the pieces. The tournament date happened to be Mike’s birthdate. We all raise our glasses and gave a toast in memory of Mike—this was such an amazing moment to witness and to be a part of.

The event was a huge success; we raised over $21,000! It’s because of the generosity and participation of our event sponsors, golfers, and planning committee that we were able to do this. Our tournament has given New Hope the ability and necessary resources to give grieving families the support, tools, education and hope they need to move forward in life. On behalf of our New Hope family, and those we serve, we want to thank all who participated for investing in the work we do, but more importantly into the lives of grieving individuals and families. Together, we are changing lives; we appreciate everyone for believing in New Hope.

We hope to see you at next year’s tournament!
